Herrera participated in the annual PARK(ing) Day event in Seattle, Washington in 2017. This international event gives people the opportunity to temporarily turn on-street parking spots into public spaces. The program is intended to encourage creative placemaking, particularly in places where access to parks is limited, as well as raise awareness about the importance of walkable, livable, and healthy communities.

Our park was called “A Day at the Lake”, and the centerpiece was a water-filled, scale model of Lake Washington.  At the park you were able to operate a remote control submarine, (magnetically) fish for native species of Lake Washington, answer trivia about the lake, match up leather lake cut-outs of national lakes with their respective names and play with rubber duckies that floated around the lake. The entire lake was operated by a re-circulating pump. We had a great time designing, building and showcasing the project and the photos below show key milestones from our work. Enjoy!
