DAM INVENTORY IN OREGON

Per the Oregon Department of Water Resources, Oregon has close to 1,200 dams in operation.  Dams range in height from six feet up to 519 feet, and store anywhere between 9.2 acre-feet of water up to 2.5 million acre-feet (1 acre-foot is equal to 325,851 gallons).  The maximum potential volume impounded by all dams in the State is a cumulative 14.8 million acre-feet or 4.8 trillion gallons. If all the dams were stacked on top of each other, they would be over 7 miles in height.
Dams are categorized into three types, depending on potential downstream impacts that would result in the event of a dam failure:

The map below shows the locations of all dams in Oregon, color coded by hazard type. Select individual dams or a cluster of dams in the map or drop down menu to show dam height distribution and maximum dam storage volume. When available or relevant, the impouned body of water is shown in brackets below the dam name. Clicking "Reset" on the bottom left will reset the dashboard to the original layout.
